Our Mission

We are committed to the preservation of Ely’s resort community.

The number of resorts in Minnesota has dropped by 20% in the past five years. Aside from the financial loss this creates in the local economy and the adverse impact on the vacationing public, this also means a unique piece of our State’s heritage is being snuffed out.

Elylodging.com is actively pursuing various options for keeping Ely’s resorts a premier vacation destination for families, fishermen, and outdoor enthusiasts. One of these options is the “common interest community” .. where a decentralized ownership structure would preserve the resort as a resort in perpetuity.

It is our belief that by decentralizing resort ownership and forming a group of individual investors whose passions are aligned with our own, it is possible to ensure that Ely’s resorts will survive and thrive for generations to come.

Common Interest Community

A common interest community (CIC) is a plan authorized by the State of Minnesota and the local area planning and zoning boards to simply restructure the ownership of the resort. The CIC allows private investors to purchase a cabin or parcel of land, join the CIC’s governing association which operates the resort, and earn income on the investment by participating in the resort’s rental pool.

Benefits of CIC Ownership

  • Appreciation. Lakefront property has been appreciating in value very rapidly in northern Minnesota. Although continued growth is not guaranteed, most agree that the trend will continue. It’s often said that your most valuable asset is the view from your front window. A CIC offers investors a piece of this scarce, valuable resource.
  • Vacation Flexibility. As the cabin owner, you’ll have the opportunity to set aside your vacation week(s) and enjoy “quality time” at your cabin without the hassles of routine maintenance and housekeeping. Your property will be maintained by the resort on your behalf .. opening, closing, cleaning, and routine repairs.
  • Realize Current Income. As a member of the CIC association, your cabin will participate in the resort’s rental pool when not in your use. This puts income in your pocket which can be used to service your debt (if any) on the property, pay your real estate taxes, upgrade your cabin, or spend it any other way you see fit.
